In 1956, the shy advertising copywriter Emmi Creola invents the fictional character Betty Bossi for a cooking oil campaign – and unexpectedly captures the spirit of the times. What begins as a simple marketing idea soon turns Betty into Switzerland’s beloved ”cook and housewife of the nation,” while Emmi herself becomes an unwilling public figure. When the public demands a real face behind the name, Emmi reluctantly steps into the role of her own creation – and becomes a celebrated culinary icon. But success comes at a price: in a male-dominated industry, she must fight to be taken seriously while also trying to fulfill society’s expectations of her as a wife and mother. With gentle humor, touching moments and nostalgic charm, ”Hello Betty“ tells the remarkable true story of a woman’s path to emancipation.

PIERRE MONNARD (*1976 in Châtel-Saint-Denis) ist ein Schweizer Filmregisseur. 1998 schloss er sein Studium an der Bournemouth Film School in England ab. Seine ersten Kurzfilme „Swapped“ (2002) und „Come Closer“ (2004) wurden u.a. mit dem Schweizer Filmpreis ausgezeichnet. Mit „Recycling Lily“ (2013) gab er sein Spielfilmdebüt. Es folgten erfolgreiche Serien wie „Anomalia“ (2015), „Wilder“ (2017–2019), „Neumatt“ (2021) und „Off Season“ (2022). Sein zweiter Spielfilm „Platzspitzbaby“ (2020) wurde zu einem der großen Erfolge des Schweizer Kinos.
