The bubbly Alyssa and the reserved Mehdi are best friends with big dreams: she wants to make her mark abroad, whilst he hopes to establish himself as an illustrator in Tunisia. When they hear about an art competition on Djerba, they embark on a road trip that could change their lives. In her feature film debut, Amel Guellaty tells with playful ease of the vigour of a generation that is tackling the disappointing legacy of the Arab Spring with imagination, humour and a talent for improvisation.

Amel Guellaty
AMEL GUELLATY (*1988) ist eine tunesische Regisseurin, Drehbuchautorin und Fotografin. Nach einem Jurastudium an der Sorbonne arbeitete sie als Regieassistentin in Frankreich, u. a. bei Olivier Assayas ("Personal Shopper"). Ihr Kurzfilmdebüt "Black Mamba" (2017) lief auf mehr als 60 Festivals und gewann 20 Preise. Es folgten der Kurzfilm "Chitana" (2022) und ein Projekt über Gewalt gegen queere Menschen in Tunesien. Ihr erster Langfilm "Wohin der Wind uns trägt" feierte 2025 Premiere in Sundance und wurde nach Rotterdam und Toronto eingeladen. Neben ihren Kinoprojekten arbeitet Guellaty auch als Werbefilmregisseurin (u. a. für Dior und Cartier) und ist als Fotografin international aktiv.
