REGULARIES EMDER SCREENPLAY AWARD 2025

Competition conditions:

Competition for unfilmed German-language feature film screenplays  for a film length between 60 and 120 minutes.

Not eligible for the competition are screenplays for TV or streaming series and multi-part films as well as revised or retitled versions of screenplays already submitted to Emden in the past.

To ensure an unbiased assessment by the nomination committee and jury, submitted screenplays must be completely anonymized and may not contain any copyright notices or references to authorship.

The submitted screenplays must have been completed after December 2023.

A possible filming may not begin before 01.07.2025.

A nomination committee convened by the festival will make a pre-selection of up to 12 works from all submitted screenplays. From this shortlist, a screenplay jury appointed by the Grimme Institute will nominate three screenplays for the Screenplay Award using a ranking process.

This nomination is associated with prize money of € 1,000.00 and an invitation to the award ceremony on 13.06.2025 in Emden.

The Emden Screenplay Award 2025 is endowed with prize money of € 10,000.00. This amount includes the prize money for the nomination. The prize money is to be earmarked for the development of new projects.

Submission:

The use of the online submission form (https://filmfest-drehbuch.md-app.de) is mandatory.

The necessary attachments (screenplay, short synopsis, author's filmography) can be attached directly to the online application.

If you choose to send the attachments in paper form and by post, you must send the festival five anonymized and bound or stapled screenplay copies, five anonymized short content summaries and - if available - an author's filmography.

Submissions are possible until 15.03.2025, the email receipt or postmark is valid.

Submissions and documents that are not sufficiently anonymized or are incomplete or sent late will not be considered.

Consent:

Screenplays submitted in paper form will not be returned to the applicants after the end of the competition, but will be destroyed. One archive file / one archive copy of each of the three nominated screenplays will remain at the festival.

By submitting their scripts, applicants agree that the associated data may be stored and processed internally for the purposes of awarding the prize and may be disclosed to persons directly involved in the process. Disclosure to third parties not directly involved is excluded.

Furthermore, the applicants expressly agree

- with the decisions of the nomination committee and the screenplay jury,

- with the public announcement of the nomination

- and, in the event of a nomination or award, to a short reading from the screenplay at the award ceremony on 13.06.2025 in Emden.
