Icelandic artist Vera is haunted by visions that force her to abandon her life in Iceland and follow the spirit of her missing father to the remote island of Newfoundland. After settling in a small fishing village, she forms an unusual connection with Jack, a local man under pressure to prove himself in his first season as captain, carrying on his father’s legacy while leading a crew determined to head out onto the ice floes to hunt seals. When Vera secretly sneaks aboard Jack’s boat, mysterious weather pushes the small crew into a life-threatening situation. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Canada’s Atlantic coast, director Justin Oakey crafts a highly suspenseful mystery thriller that is both visually and acoustically stunning.

JUSTIN OAKEY ist ein zweisprachiger Filmemacher aus Neufundland, der mit Jagen, Fischen und Geschichtenerzählen aufgewachsen ist. Er studierte an der Ryerson University und hat einen Bachelor of Fine Arts in Filmwissenschaft. Nach seinem Studium kehrte er ins ländliche Neufundland zurück. Seine preisgekrönten Kurzfilme brachten seine atmosphärische Vision von Neufundland auf Festivals rund um die Welt. 2016 gab er sein Spielfilmdebüt mit „Riverhead“ (2016). Auch als Cutter für Film und Fernsehen machte er sich einen Namen – u.a. mit „The King Tide“, der 2024 beim Internationalen Filmfest Emden-Norderney lief.
