In the beginning was the egg. Or was it the chicken? On a chicken farm, there’s little time for the most existential of all questions. Immediately after hatching, the fluffy fowl often ends up in the soup pot via factory conveyor belts and motorways. On a Greek chicken farm, a particularly clever chicken hatches and sets off into the big, wide world. A new chapter begins for the chicken: it proves itself in the henhouse hierarchy, squabbles with turkeys, wins the rooster’s heart and explores new territory in search of a nesting spot. In the process, it stumbles into the criminal entanglements of the family living there, who are fighting for survival...

György Pálfi
GYÖRGY PÁLFI (*1974 in Budapest) absolvierte die Akademie für Theater und Film in Budapest. Sein Debüt „Hukkle – Das Dorf“ (2002) machte ihn zu einer einzigartigen Stimme im zeitgenössischen europäischen Kino. Es folgte die groteske Komödie „Taxidermia“ (2006). Beide Filme gingen als ungarischer Beitrag für den besten fremdsprachigen Film ins Oscar-Rennen. Er gewann mehrere Auszeichnungen, darunter den Preis als „bester Nachwuchsregisseur“ beim Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián und den Fassbinder-Preis bei der Verleihung des Europäischen Filmpreises. Seine Werke verbinden oft Fiktion, Dokumentation und experimentelle Formen und erweitern damit die Grenzen des filmischen Erzählens.
