15-year-old Elvira firmly believes that she was conceived in a Danish fertility clinic and that her biological father is a famous Danish film star who will one day open the door to a different life for her. She dreams of escaping the sleepy town of Nesseby in the far northeast of Norway, where she lives with her Sámi mother, Beate, who is also in the midst of coming to terms with her own homosexuality. Elvira is all the more shocked when her real father suddenly appears, confronting her with a completely different genetic and cultural heritage than she had ever imagined. With great sensitivity and a touch of quirky humor, Egil Pedersen’s coming-of-age film tells the story of how its confident young heroine rises to the challenge of redefining herself and her family.
