Ireland, 1984: In a small-town cinema, the stressed-out owner Earl Clancy tries to survive a Friday 8 pm screening that has gone completely haywire – and with it, a cascade of personal and professional disasters. Whilst chaos reigns in the auditorium, the same questions keep circling in his head: Should he sell his cinema to a shady politician? And can he really part with his great passion? With plenty of wit, pace and a flair for the absurd, David Gleeson tells the story of a night at the cinema that is anything but ordinary. Inspired by his own childhood in a family of cinema operators – his father looks back on one of the longest careers in the Irish cinema industry – the film is a tribute to the cinema as a social space that is as affectionate as it is tongue-in-cheek: a place where life unfolds at least as intensely as it does on the screen.

David Gleeson
DAVID GLEESON ist ein irischer Filmregisseur und Drehbuchautor. Mit neunzehn Jahren begann er seine Karriere als Autor und Regisseur von Laientheaterstücken. Danach arbeitete er ein paar Jahre in der Nordseeölindustrie, bis er während eines Filmkurses an der New York Film Academy seinen ersten Kurzfilm „Feels Like Home“ realisierte. 2003 gab er sein Spielfilmdebüt mit „Cowboys & Angels“, das mehrfach ausgezeichnet wurde. Ab 2008 verkaufte er mehrere seiner Drehbücher an Studios wie Focus Features, Fox Filmed Entertainment, Mattel Films und Paramount Pictures.
