Following a racist attack on her life, prosecutor Seyo Kim begins her own investigation – even though she has been expressly forbidden to do so. She manages to bring one of the perpetrators to trial. She is convinced that there is more to the crime than meets the eye: a right-wing network operating in secret. Determined, she sifts through old files and reopens cases long since closed. In the courtroom, however, she becomes painfully aware of how difficult it is to fight for justice in a system that trivialises – or even covers up – right-wing violence. Faraz Shariat is regarded as one of the most exciting and courageous young voices in German cinema. Provocative and angry, yet never without hope, “Staatsschutz“ tells a story of resistance and explores the question of whether a corrupt system can be saved from within.

Faraz Shariat
FARAZ SHARIAT (*1994 in Köln) studierte Szenische Künste an der Universität Hildesheim. 2015 gründete er zusammen mit Paulina Lorenz die Produktionsfirma Jünglinge Film. Mit ihr produzierte er sein Debüt „Future Drei“, das 2020 Premiere im Panorama feierte und u.a. zwei Teddy Awards und zwei First Steps Awards gewann. Seither inszenierte er Episoden für „The Baby“ und „Zeit Verbrechen“ (Panorama 2024) und produzierte die Serie „Schwarze Früchte“, die 2024 auf dem Tribeca Film Festival gezeigt wurde. Er ist Stipendiat der Villa Aurora in Los Angeles und entwickelt aktuell sein erstes englischsprachiges Projekt. „Staatsschutz“ ist sein zweiter Kinofilm. (Foto: David Uzochukwu)
