Shóna McAnally, a teenager from Donegal, has a love-hate relationship with her extraordinary talent as a traditional Irish violinist. Together with her little brother Mickey and a group of travelling musicians, she embarks on a journey across the country, filled with adventure, romance and musical discoveries. ”Trad” is a loving tribute to Irish music, featuring an outstanding lead actress: Megan Nic Fhionnghaile plays the young violinist and, together with brothers Declan and Eugene Quinn, has contributed to the film’s rousing soundtrack.

LANCE DALY ist ein irischer Filmregisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent. Er studierte Kommunikationswissenschaften an der Dublin City University und gehört zu einer neuen Generation von Filmemachern, die Mitte der 2000er-Jahre entschlossen waren, die schwerfälligen, wortreichen Traditionen des irischen Kinos hinter sich zu lassen. Sein Film „Kisses“ (2008) wurde mit dem IFTA ausgezeichnet, dem wichtigsten Film- und Fernsehpreis Irlands. 2013 gründete er zusammen mit Kirsten Sheridan und John Carney The Factory, ein künstlerisches Kollektiv mit Schwerpunkt auf Filmproduktion. „Trad“ ist sein siebter Spielfilm.
