28. International Filmfest Emden-Norderney from June 7th to 14th, 2017

It's that time of the year again. The city of Emden and our festival island Norderney will lift their theatre curtains to excite film enthusiasts with the new programme of the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney. The 28th edition will be taking place from June 7th to June 14th, 2017.

Located close to the UNESCO Wadden Sea World Heritage at the North Sea, the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney is among Germany’s most nationally acclaimed and internationally recognised film festivals. With more than 160 screenings and over 24.000 visitors the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney is a true festival for the public and is also increasingly developing into a highly-regarded meeting place for numerous representatives of the German and northwestern European film industry. Over the years the IFF Emden-Norderney has become a well-adopted, heartwarming festival with an exceptionally good reputation among visitors and the industry.

The main focus of the programme is on current film productions from northwestern Europe. Due to its extensive programme of new British and Irish films, the International Filmfest Emden-Norderney has come to be regarded as a showcase for UK productions in Germany. The programme includes new films from German-speaking countries, portraits of directors and actors, International highlights and discoveries as well as short films, and is completed by a programme of children’s and family films. A large part of the films in competition will receive their German premieres here in Emden or on the island of Norderney. To present the nominees to our local audiences the festival has been providing German subtitles for a great number of films.

Prize money totalling € 60,000 will be awarded over the course of the festival, with the audience deciding on the winners. Our International main competition - the SCORE Bernhard Wicki Award - comes with a purse of € 10,000, the Emden Screenplay Award with its prize money of € 12,000, will be decided on by a selected jury of experts in close cooperation with the renowned Grimme Institute.

Submission is open from January 1st to March 18th, 2017.
