Lilia travels to her native Tunisia to bury her uncle Daly. She is accompanied by her partner Alice, who, however, does not stay at the family home but in a nearby hotel. Even Lilia’s mother has no idea about her daughter’s lesbian relationship, which would not only bring shame upon the family but is actually a criminal offence in Tunisia. When, during the funeral service lasting several days, Lilia learns that her uncle died under mysterious circumstances, she begins to conduct her own investigations. A moving family drama about identity, family and the destructive power of the unspoken. A film that inspires courage and, with careful steps, unleashes powerful emotions.

LEYLA BOUZID (*1984 in Tunis) studierte in Paris an der renommierten Filmhochschule La Fémis Regie. Internationale Aufmerksamkeit erlangte sie 2006 mit dem Kurzfilm „Sbah El Khir“. Sie arbeitete als Regieassistentin mit Jean Douchet und Abdellatif Kechiche sowie als Script Supervisorin für ihren Vater Nouri Bouzid. Ihr Abschlussfilm „Soubresauts“ (2012) wurde weltweit mehrfach ausgezeichnet. 2015 erhielt sie für ihr Langspielfilmdebüt „Kaum öffne ich die Augen“ (2015) den Publikumspreis und den „Europa Cinemas Label Award“ für den besten europäischen Film bei den Filmfestspielen von Venedig. „Mit leiser Stimme“ (2026) ist ihr dritter Spielfilm.
