An isolated island off the Canadian East Coast. A baby is rescued from a washed-up boat wreck on the beach and adopted by Bobby Benton, the mayor of the small island town, and his wife Grace. The child is named Isla, and as she grows older, it soon becomes apparent that Isla possesses extraordinary healing powers. Her presence alone is enough to heal the sick and attract schools of fish. Christian Sparkes

CHRISTIAN SPARKES ist ein kanadischer Filmregisseur und Drehbuchautor aus St. John‘s, Neufundland Labrador. Als Absolvent des Canadian Film Centre führte er Regie bei mehreren Kurzfilmen, bevor er 2014 mit „Cast No Shadow“ sein Spielfilmdebüt gab, für das er für den Canadian Screen Award nominiert wurde. „The King Tide“ ist sein dritter Spielfilm, der seine Premiere auf dem Toronto International Film Festival 2023 feierte. „Sweetland“ ist sein vierter Spielfilm, der seine Premiere auf dem Atlantic International Film Festival 2023 in Halifax hatte.
