„The Riot | Sulis 1907“ tells the story of the struggle against oppression in the mining town of Sulitjelma, called Sulis, at the beginning of the 20th century. Based on true events, the film depicts, against the magnificent backdrop of the northern Scandinavian landscape, the fight against oppression, slave labor, and the brutality of capitalism.

NILS GAUP (*1955 in Kautokeino, Norwegen) begann seine künstlerische Laufbahn als Schauspieler an verschiedenen Theatern. Er besuchte die Schauspielschule und studierte am renommierten Beaivvas Sámi Theater in Kautokeino. Dort gründete er auch das erste Theater in nordsamischer Sprache. Später machte er Karriere als Autor und Regisseur. Mit seinem Debütfilm „Pathfinder“ gelang ihm 1987 ein Publikumserfolg in Norwegen, der mehrere nationale Filmpreise gewann und 1988 sogar für den Oscar nominiert war. „The Riot“ feierte im vergangenen Jahr beim internationalen norwegischen Filmfestival in Haugesund seine Weltpremiere.
